Hot Spot: AIDS Memorial Day

It may not be the disease of the millennium (the pest is the most likely candidate), but it is definitely the one of the last two decades: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, AIDS.
Each year 1 December is World AIDS Day. The necessity for such a memorial day is confirmed by the latest figures published by UNAIDS, a cooperation of seven United Nations organizations who have taken up the fight against and the education about AIDS: since the epidemic began 16 million persons have died and 50 million have been infected with the HIV virus.
In the Netherlands World AIDS Day is organized by the Aidsfonds.
