Hot Spot: Max Euwe 1901-1981

Portrait of Max Euwe, Chess Olympiad 1954 Amsterdam, drawing by Ph. Fokkens

20 May is the centenary of the birth of the Chess Grandmaster Max Euwe, the only world champion of chess the Netherlands has ever had. In celebration of this centenary the Max Euwe-Centrum has organized numerous festivities, such as an end game composition competition, for which Jan Timman will act as arbiter.
The Motiefgroep Schaken has organized a digital exhibition.
On 3 April PTT-post has issued a special a stamp.
Euwe's most important games are available via the Internet, with new annotations by Jan van Reek.
Various libraries have interesting chess and checkers collections, for example the Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijer of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (ca. 40,000 books) and the checkers and chess collection of the University Library Amsterdam (ca. 6000 titles).
