Hot Spot: 400 years VOC

Gevelsteen van het VOC20 March will be the fourth centenary of the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC), the Dutch East-India Company, the world's largest trade company in the 17th and 18th century and one of the pillars of the Golden Age of the Low Countries.

All year the VOC will be the focus of exhibitions, symposia, lectures, special celebrations, etc. Many of these activities will take place in the six VOC cities, Amsterdam, Delft, Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Rotterdam and Zeeland (Middelburg).

The University Library Amsterdam commemorates the centenary with the exhibition All points of the compass. Many travel accounts of VOC journeys were published by the Linschoten-vereniging, as one of their by now 100 titles . From 13 March until 31 May these books will be the highlight of the exhibition.
